The exquisite beauty of the chinchilla's fur, along with it's great personality
and irresistible appearance makes this creature a great family pet.
The minimum size cage for a chinchilla is 2'x2'x2'. Wire mesh cages without a wire bottom are best. A ferret cage is suitable.
Feed a high quality chinchilla pellet. Give fresh timothy hay several times a week. Use metal, glass or pottery dishes. They will chew on plastics.
Chinchillas drink from a water bottle. Glass is recommended over plastic, unless you have a bottle guard. Chinchillas like to chew and can rapidly chew a hole in an unprotected plastic bottle.
Chinchillas require a dust bath several times a week Chinchilla dust (volcanic ash) is available in most pet stores.
Give 2 raisins a day for a treat.
